Video Downloader Ori ("Ori", "the extension") is a Chrome extension that saves videos playing in your browser. It is built to work without collecting anything about you. This policy explains what the extension handles and where that information goes.
The short version
Everything Ori does happens inside your browser. We have no servers that receive your data, we don't use analytics or advertising, and we never see which pages you visit or what you download.
What the extension handles
- Media requests. To find videos, Ori looks at the address and file type of network requests made by the pages you visit. The list of videos found is kept in temporary browser storage and removed when you close the tab or the browser. Preview thumbnails are cached in the same temporary storage until you close the browser.
- Video details on the page. On pages where Ori detects a video, it reads the page title and address, each video's length, the author name and the first line of the caption shown next to it, plus the page's preview image and subtitle links. This is used only to show thumbnails and to name your files. It stays in your browser and is discarded with the tab.
- Downloads. When you choose to download, Ori fetches the video directly from the website that hosts it, the same way the page does: the request includes your cookies for that site and the page address as the referrer, so the site returns the video you are watching. Nothing is sent anywhere else. The file is saved with Chrome's download manager. Temporary files used while joining a stream are kept in the browser's private storage and deleted when the download finishes or is cancelled; anything left over is cleared the next time Ori's download tab opens.
- Download list. Ori's download tab lists the downloads you started in this browser session (title, page address and file name). The list is kept in temporary browser storage, keeps only the most recent downloads, and is cleared when you close the browser.
What we don't do
- We don't collect, sell or share your browsing history, the videos you watch or the files you download.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- We don't run code loaded from the internet. Everything the extension runs ships inside the extension package.
Third parties
Videos are downloaded directly from the websites that host them, which handle those requests under their own policies.
Permissions
Ori asks Chrome for access to all websites so it can notice videos wherever you watch them, read the page details described above, and fetch videos when you ask. It uses that access only for these purposes.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
